Dr. Kate Rodriguez, Ph.D., LPC-S, CFE

Divisional Director of Licensed Counseling Services
Assistant Director of Clinical Operations

Dr. Kate Rodriguez lends an enormous breadth of both clinical and forensic experience to the MediMental Care team. Dr. Rodriguez earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the prestigious George Washington University, and then returned to Texas to earn her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Texas A&M -Corpus Christi. After receiving her state licensure in Professional Counseling, she earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education (also from Texas A&M), and ultimately received the much-coveted top licensure in counseling, that of Counseling Supervisor (LPC-S). Dr. Rodriguez is a National Certified Counselor, a National Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator, and a Clinical Forensic Counselor. Dr. Rodriguez holds memberships in the American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association, the National Board of Certified Counselors, the Forensic Counseling Association and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. She is married to Mike Treiber, her husband of 7 years. The couple has two young children, aged 4 and 2.

Dr. Rodriguez’ experience as both a clinical counseling practitioner and counselor educator/supervisor is prolific. Equally prolific are the positions which she has held, in a wide variety of clinical, educational, and non-profit community settings. What Dr. Rodriguez has derived from her abundant experience constitutes a perfect balance to the skillsets of Dr. Parker. While Dr. Parker possesses depth of experience in the largely overlooked biomedical and neuro-pathophysiological factors involved in traumatic stress injury, Dr. Rodriguez possesses equivalent expertise in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of the spouses, children and families who are traumatic stress injury’s most frequently overlooked primary and secondary victims. The highly nuanced balance which Dr. Rodriguez brings to the MediMental Care team is by no means accidental. It is an essential part of MMC’s unique approach to traumatic stress injury through clinical engagement with the entire family and relational system of which every one of our adult patients is a part. Furthermore, it lends special expertise to the MediMental treatment of post traumatic injuries and disorders, as they present in young victims of personal injury.

Dr. Rodriguez’ clinical licensing internship at the Women’s Shelter of South Texas provided a foundational experience in trauma counseling. This was followed by further internship positions in which she provided counseling and psychological services to children, adolescents, and teens at the Student Learning Guidance Center, and at Miller High School, both in Corpus Christi. Once fully licensed, Dr. Rodriguez counseled at Bishop Garriga Middle school, served as Counselor Supervisor for the West Oso School District, and as a Counselor Clinician of traumatized children for Lutheran Social Services of the South. In 2014, Dr. Rodriguez founded her own private practice and later established a group practice {Youvolve Healing Center, PLLC) in Corpus Christi. As a counseling educator, Dr. Rodriguez holds faculty appointment as Adjunct Professor of Counseling at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She has made numerous appearances as a conference presenter and has authored more than a dozen professional education courses. She has even had the unusual experience of serving as the Director of an entire high school/ middle school complex, discharging its entire range of responsibilities in academics, curriculum, instructional personnel, human resource management, food service and physical building and plant management, student guidance and counseling. These unique skills have made Dr. Rodriguez well-attuned to the performance of her role as Assistant Director of Clinical Operations for MediMental Care.

Dr. Rodriguez’ fluency in Spanish, and her intense desire to continually expand her awareness of the life’s challenges as they are experienced by others, began motivating her world travels to 21 countries while she was still a student. Against the backdrop of this intensive and unfiltered immersion into the human experience of life and loss across many cultures and backgrounds, “Dr. Kate” found herself developing an innate sense of rapport and concern for others, including those experiencing the most difficult aspects of the human condition. In response to this, she eventually obeyed a deep personal and professional call to transcend the traditional limits of counseling, in favor of a blended practice including both private counseling and forensic advocacy in the courts.

As a Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator and Certified Forensic Counselor, Dr. Rodriguez has not only exercised her extensive experience as a clinical practitioner but has placed that expertise at the service of both (l) the justice system, and (2) individuals whose life losses and circumstances have caused them to become the objects of legal adjudication. Her experience as a testifying and expert witness created a natural springboard for her later work at MediMental Care. It has run the legal gamut, from cases involving the physical abuse and exploitation of female immigrants, all the way to capital murder prosecutions. As the daughter of parents in both the legal and judiciary professions, Dr. Rodriguez came to an early, innate understanding of how medicine, mental health and the law intersect, particularly in the personal injury litigation space. Today, she applies this rare and specialized skillset by providing unique and unparalleled counseling services for the catastrophically and traumatically injured at MediMental Care.
